Orthotics and Support Devices

OrthoticsPoor biomechanical foot function can be the cause of conditions such as lower back pain, knee pain, heel pain, mid-foot and forefoot pain. Orthotic control can be used to stabilize the foot and relieve the pain caused by poor biomechanical foot function such as excessive pronation.

Orthotics comes from the Greek word “ortho”, which means, "to straighten." Orthotics are devices that support and realign the foot and leg to their neutral position alleviating problems in the feet, ankle and legs as well as other parts of the body. In addition, orthotics can be modified to provide shock absorption or to remove pressure from certain areas of the foot.

Foot orthotics can be used to treat many conditions such as plantar fasciitis (heel pain), low arch pain, high arched pain, and arthritic pains at the toes, shin splints as well as chronic foot and ankle sprains.

For orthotics to work properly, they must be custom-made to your feet from an accurate impression. This can only be done by experienced lower extremity specialist who has the advanced training to understand proper placement of the foot while the impression is being taken. This cannot be done by salesmen in a shoe store or a mall. Mass-produced retail arch supports are not helpful as they do not fit your foot accurately and will collapse under the weight of your foot.

Please do not waste your money on arch supports advertised on television that are sold in local "foot stores". These products do not perform as advertised and are simply taken out of a box from the rear of the store. If you are willing to spend the hundreds of dollars they will charge you for these products please get a pair of custom-made bio-mechanical functional orthotic from an experienced lower extremity specialist.
Dr. Tsyganova has been dispensing the custom molded orthotics. These orthotics is fabricated from a unique impression technique and provide true support for the feet.

Different types of AFO (ankle foot orthoses) are used by Dr. Tsyganova to help patients with problems such as drop foot where the patient cannot lift the foot or drags the foot behind them while walking .
